May seem unneeded but in-game there will be no cursor to show where you are on a map.

so here is a Illustration of how to do it.

Here is a blank map of your rough vicinity, you want to know where you are?

You look what landmarks are to the North of you, what's to the South-east of you and what's to the South-west of you, draw a imaginary triangle, you'll be in the rough centre of the triangle.

This has limitations, that is if the area is a huge plain and there's no landmarks to distinguish within eyesight.

Also a good way to not get lost; the sun always rises in the east and goes down in the west. So when you're walking towards the setting sun you are walking to the west.

Yes, which will be great if wherever you are going is to the west ;)

Also (dependent on game features) Wind blows mostly in a single direction in a area, I do believe in the UK for example it is a Westerly direction.
