I was rereading the game's website when I came over the questions about bots and goldfarmers again, I'd read this before but forgotten about it until this point.

Bots and goldfarming will be perfectly legal, within the rules. This brings up the thought: Will bots be necessary in order to compete?
I think they will, nobody is going to want to do the tasks that just involve clicking things. I think we're going to have to start development on a bot as soon as the game begins to get the greatest advantage over our enemies. We might even be able to start before in the beta tests.

Do we have anybody with programming experience that would be able to do this?

I don't have the Programming skills.

However we will have Offline AI's which will be totally adjustable, so we can have bots of a sort.

For example you are a Blacksmith, while you are online you could be making weapons, socialising with customers, getting involved in your local tribal affairs, general shopkeeping etc..

And when you are offline you can set it so that your Character smelts ores, makes items etc...

I program so I could try, but it would probably be fairly hard.

Ok, when the time comes you can try it.

A bot should technically be cheating, because it is not you controlling it. but hey, go for it

Quote from the Q&A:

"The networking code will be based on Valve's whitepaper they published a few years ago about how they do server side simulations and checking. Nothing is done on the client side. There will certainly be botting, but we will actually allow botting to a degree,"

I dont like the idea of bots, because it leaves people who cant code at a huge disadvantage

If you have the expertise in your manpool then you make full advantage of it.
